Violet's Chronicles

The Last Question by Asimov

After reading the story “The Last Question” by the author Asimov, I was left very confused the first time reading it. I literally had to read it twice to understand the concept and meaning of the short stories in one story. The author’s use of imagery and changing different characters, each more futuristic as the story went on truly put the reader into the world Asimov wanted to create. The repeated question of whether entropy could be reversed was significant in that it really showed that humans’ only desire it to reach a state in which we are all knowing. This concept that humanity inherently craves to understand divine power and immortality is explicitly shown throughout the story. Each character asks the same question despite apparently reaching newer levels of almost divine nature, the last few characters are not even of body but only of mind and travel the galaxy in that form, yet they still ask the question of whether the end can be reversed. What I got from it was the same meaning within every ending and that is that everything would come to an end. When its coming from the concept of technology (cellufilm defined is multivac, a government run supercomputer whose function is to answer questions when asked), to the concept of physics, to religion, etc, it was very hard to interpret or put into words. But overall when you read it and  look into the meanings of each word the author puts into his story, they make more sense. He brings into the future and what might eventually happen, eventually saying, were all going to have an ending, the sun, the universe, it will end one day.
